The current standard of New Zealand homes is 20 years behind the rest of the world. By WHO (World Health Organisation) measures, we have some of the coldest, dampest houses on the market and the highest mortality rate from asthma for a first-world country.
Despite this, interest in property development and new builds are increasing, while the cost and resistance to green technologies are coming down. Property stock is rising past 70% nationally across all regions, and green technologies like solar have decreased tenfold in cost over the last ten years.

A Superhome is one that meets or exceeds the strict tests we outline in our guide, designed by over 70 professionals in building, valuation and leading home research. Together with our sponsors and partners, we deliver on homes that meet all the legal requirements for a healthy home and then take it further. We design with optimal environmental control, thermal comfort, low-carbon, and minimum waste in mind.
